Reaching for the Minds and Hearts of Southington

Let's start this weekend by rising to the call of "Stuff a Cruiser"

A Southington Police Cruiser will be on hand at Walmart at 235 Queen Street in Southington on Saturday, December 10, 2011 during the hours of 10:00 am and 3:00 pm.

Huh? How do you stuff a cruiser? What do you use to stuff it?

The idea is to stuff as many gifts into a police cruiser as we can for families whose holidays may not be so bright this year without a helping hand from you.

Help by donating a new, unwrapped gift; bring it to Walmart and help stuff the police cruiser. Gifts may be for all ages. The gifts will reach many families in need of assistance through Southington Community Services.

An even bigger event is the urgent request from Janet Mellon, Director of Southington Community Services. It's a one hour event starting at Noon on Monday, December 12th and it's a way to: "Double Your Donation".

Each of us has a singular opportunity on Monday, December 12, 2011 between the hours of 12:00 Noon and 1:00 pm at Walmart in Southington.

Walmart has pledged to match every dollar given to the Southington Salvation Army during that one hour period on Monday in front of their store.

Senators Joe Markey and Rob Sampson will be ringing the Salvation Army bells to raise money for Southington Community Services to help feed Southington's hungriest during this season.

No surprise that in our sustained economic downturn more and more people are hurting. In the same vein, the donations to Southington Community Services  are suffering. .

But the year is not over yet! In fact, a solution is at hand.

Southington Community Services;still has an opportunity to make up this year's shortfall in just one hour on Monday if you will go to Walmart in Southington between Noon and 1 pm and put a small but meaningful donation in the Salvation Army bucket. For every dollar you and all of us give, Walmart will match it with another dollar, thus doubling our collective donations.

The goal is $10,000 which would bring in $20,000 including Walmart's matching funds to Southington Community Services.

Cash is fine and so are checks which should be made payable to Southington Salvation Army.

Walmart is running this program on Monday at all its stores throughout Connecticut at the same time. So, be sure you make your donation at the Queen Street location of  Walmart in Southington.

How can we make this a success?
* Tell your friends.
* Tell your neighbors.
* Tell your families.
* Tell your fellow workers.
If you can't get to Walmart between Noon and 1 pm, drop off your donation at anytime from 6:30 am to noon at Southington Community Services at 91 Norton Street in Plantsville. The location is on route 10/South Main Street.

Janet Mellon will take all the donations up to Walmart between Noon and 1 pm and drop it in the Salvation Army bucket to earn Walmart's matching funds.

P L E A S E - HELP MAKE THIS DRIVE A SUCCESS WITH ANY DONATION....

Every donation, whether $2.00 or $3.00, $5.00 to $10.00 or more WILL help us meet the goal.

See you at Walmart's on Monday. You know the time.
