Storm Debris Removal Operations - Town of Southington

Storm Debris Removal Operations

The following "informational alert and guideline" is being distributed by
The Quest for Common Ground as a service to the community of Southington, CT.
Storm-related debris removal began this week and is expected to last
approximately 3 weeks.

While leaf pick-up is still going on, that process is separate from debris removal. Debris pick-up will begin in “leaf zone 4,” which is the SW quadrant of the Town (West of Route 10 and South of West Center St.), and will continue in a counterclockwise pattern (SE, NE and finally NW).

Only 2 passes will be made in each zone, with each pass taking less than a week, so it is important that debris be placed out for pick-up immediately.
Residents are asked to follow these guidelines:'

1. Storm-related debris should be segregated. Logs, limbs and leaves (vegetative debris) only will be collected.

2. Wooden fence debris will not be collected by debris removal operations but may be taken to the Bulky Waste Transfer Station for disposal.

3. Vegetative debris should be placed on your property’s Right-of-Way, but not on sidewalks or road travel lanes.

4. Debris should not be stacked on or adjacent to fire hydrants, mail boxes, telephone pedestals, fences, etc.
Personal safety is critical during debris removal operations.
  • Pedestrians should allow a 50-foot radius away from any mechanical debris loading operations.
  • Motorists should be respectful of debris employees and patient with debris removal operations.
This information was provided as a community advisory service by the office of the Southington Town Manager.
All questions regarding debris removal operations should be directed to the
Town Engineering Department at (860) 276-6231.
Thank you.
